Kitchen sink sizes

Sizes from the makers' spec sheets. Every sink is different, so check the sheet for yours before you buy the cabinet.

Short answer

The 33 by 22 in sink is the one Kohler and Elkay both make, and it needs a 36 in base cabinet. Bowls run 8 to 10 in deep. The makers want the base about 3 in wider than the sink.

Smallest base is the narrowest base cabinet the maker says the sink fits, measured outside the box.

What size base cabinet for a 33 inch sink?

A 36 in sink base. Kohler lists 36 in as the minimum for all three of its 33 in sinks above, single and double bowl. A 30 in sink takes a 33 in base, and a 25 in sink fits a 30 in base.

Don't go by the sink width alone. The cabinet sides eat part of the width, so the opening inside is narrower than the size on the box.

Wolf makes sink bases in these widths:

24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, 42 in

Farm sinks get their own base with a cut-down front. Wolf's come 30, 33, 36, 39, 42 in wide. A sink base is the standard 24 in deep. The cabinet sizes guide has the rest of the boxes.

Counter space around the sink

The NKBA guidelines ask for 24 in of counter on one side of the main sink and 18 in on the other. Put the dishwasher within 36 in of the sink. For a wheelchair user, ADA puts the sink rim no higher than 34 in.
