How much does an outdoor kitchen cost?

From the National Association of Realtors and National Association of Landscape Professionals (2023) and Zonda's Cost vs. Value report (2025).

Short answer

The landscape professionals' estimate for a modest outdoor kitchen (a built-in grill, drawers, ice chest, sink and 60 sq ft of countertop) is $15,000, and Realtors estimate all of it comes back at resale. A big patio project with an outdoor kitchen runs about $51,000 nationally in Zonda's report, recouping 46%.

The two national figures

  • $15,000: NAR and NALP's 2023 Remodeling Impact Report prices "one inset grill, stainless steel drawers, ice chest, sink, 60 square feet of concrete countertop, made from veneered masonry stone." Realtors estimated 100% of the cost recovered when selling.
  • $51,454: Zonda's 2025 Cost vs. Value "Backyard Patio" project includes a stone-veneer kitchen unit with a gas grill, mini fridge, sink and storage, plus the patio. Resale value $23,672, 46% recouped. Zonda has no separate outdoor kitchen project.

What moves the price

The grill head, the island's length and finish, and running gas, water and power. Size the island and count the blocks with the island planner, then size the gas line.
