Built-in grill cutout dimensions
From each maker's install manual or spec sheet, checked November 2026. Width × depth × height, in inches. Confirm against the manual for your exact model before you cut.
Short answer
A 30 to 32 in grill head needs a cutout about 29 to 31 in wide, 21 to 23½ in deep and 8½ to 11½ in tall; 36 in heads about 34 to 35 in wide. Building the island from wood or anything else combustible? Almost every maker requires its insulated jacket or liner, which needs a bigger cutout.

Clearances vary a lot
Distance to combustible material ranges from 12 in (Lynx, Twin Eagles) to 18 in (Blaze, Fire Magic, DCS) and 21 in (Bull). Bull says not to use combustible materials for the enclosure at all. Plan the island around the strictest number you might need, and leave the front air gaps the manual shows.
Lay out the whole island with the outdoor kitchen island planner. Running gas to it? Size the pipe with the gas line calculator, or seehow long a propane tank lasts.
Weber's Summit built-ins aren't drop-in heads: the grill sits on a floor-to-counter cutout in a non-combustible island (Summit S-460 30¼ × 23 in, S-660 38¼ × 23 in, 34⅜ in tall) with 24 in to combustibles, per Weber's install guide.
